Torino, Italia

In September, my wife and I spent a weekend in Torino, to celebrate our anniversaries. Like in any Italian city, we enjoyed visiting the old town, which is mostly pedestrian. We also have great food and wines, since Torino is the entry point and main city of Piemonte.

But it is also a city which has a deep history in car manufacturing, the most well known brand coming from Torino being FIAT (which stands for “Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino“, aka “Italian Car Manufacture Torino“). Since our son was with us, we had to visit the MAUTO, the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile. There is a great retrospective of over 100 years of cars, both Italian and from the rest of the world.

Next to the museum, you can visit the old FIAT factory, which has been converted into a huge shopping center. Skip the shopping center, but head to the last level, and you will be able to visit the CASA FIAT and the Pinacoteca Agnelli. The pinacoteca is a private collection of paintings and art from the Agnelli family, which supervised the FIAT factory. But what you don’t see from the ground is that the roof of the building was a testing track for the FIAT cars. Now it has been converted into a modern art exhibition. You can walk around the track, discover sculptures and have an amazing view on the city and the surrounding mountains.
